Milan & the 2026 Winter Olympics: venues, events, tickets, and what to do in the city

Did You Know?

Milano-Cortina 2026: when (start and end dates)

The official dates of the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics are 6–22 February 2026: the Games begin with the Opening Ceremony on 6 February at San Siro Stadium in Milan, and end with the Closing Ceremony on 22 February at the Arena di Verona.

Beyond the official dates, some competitions in Milan—especially ice hockey—will already take place from 5 February.

Milano-Cortina Olympics: venues in Milan

For the Winter Olympics in Milan, there are five key locations in the city (and its immediate surroundings).

1) San Siro – Milan San Siro Olympic Stadium

The Opening Ceremony will be held at San Siro Stadium (Stadio Giuseppe Meazza) on 6 February 2026.

To reach the Milan San Siro Olympic Stadium, we recommend:

  • Metro: San Siro Stadio stop (M5 – lilac line); Lotto stop (M1 – red line and M5 – lilac line)
  • Tram: Line 16, San Siro Stadio M5 stop

2) Santa Giulia – Milan Santa Giulia Ice Hockey Arena

The Milan Santa Giulia Ice Hockey Arena is in the Santa Giulia district (south-east Milan) and hosts the core of the ice hockey tournament (and para ice hockey).

To reach the Milan Santa Giulia Ice Hockey Arena, we recommend:

  • Metro + Hockey Arena Shuttle: from Rogoredo (M3 – yellow line), the “Hockey Arena Shuttle” service will operate to the venue
  • Metro + Tram 27/Tram 12: from Repetti (M4 – blue line), take Tram 27 or Tram 12 to Viale Ungheria – Largo Guerrieri Gonzaga, then walk about 400 m to the venue. Service will be enhanced throughout the Games. For full info and tickets, check the ATM app. You can also tap in on ATM transport with a credit/debit card, phone, or smartwatch, without buying a paper ticket (how it works).
  • Train: from Rogoredo FS, the “Hockey Arena Shuttle” service will operate to the venue. For timetables and tickets, see the Trenord website.
  • On foot: from Rogoredo FS (metro/train), it’s a 1.5 km walk to the venue.

3) Assago – Milan Ice Skating Arena

The Milan Ice Skating Arena (Unipol Forum, Assago, in the south-east area of Milan) hosts figure skating and short track events.
The vibe here will be very much “evening-focused”: many sessions and finals take place in the late afternoon/evening slot.

To reach the Milan Ice Skating Arena, we recommend taking Metro Line M2 (green) to Assago Milanofiori Forum.

4) Rho / Fiera Milano – Milan Ice Park (Speed Skating Stadium + Ice Hockey Arena)

The Milan Ice Park is located in Rho (Fiera Milano, north-west Milan) and is a temporary venue that includes the Milan Speed Skating Stadium and the Milan Ice Hockey Arena. It hosts speed skating, as well as some ice hockey matches.

To reach the Milan Ice Park, we recommend:

  • Metro: Rho Fiera Milano stop (M1 – red line). For full info and tickets, use the ATM app. You can also tap in with a credit/debit card, phone, or smartwatch, without buying a ticket.
  • Train: Rho Fiera stop. For full info and tickets, check the Trenord website.

5) Porta Romana (Milan) – Olympic Village

Milan’s Olympic Village is located at Scalo di Porta Romana, between Porta Romana and the Fondazione Prada area.

The Village is designed as a true “city within the city”: an operational hub built to keep daily life running smoothly for delegations during the Games. Inside, you’ll find accommodation, dining, wellness spaces, and training areas accessible 24/7, supporting athletes and staff—transfers to competition venues included.

It was also planned with a long-term urban legacy in mind: after the Winter Olympics, the residential spaces will be converted into a modern student residence, as part of the wider regeneration plan for Scalo di Porta Romana.

Important: public transport service hours will be extended until 2:00 a.m. throughout the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympic period.

Which Olympic events will take place in Milan?

In and around Milan (Milan city + Assago + Rho), the programme is mostly ice-based, plus the Opening Ceremony:

  • Ice hockey (Milan Santa Giulia Ice Hockey Arena; some matches also at the Ice Hockey Arena/Ice Park in Rho)
  • Figure skating (Assago – Milan Ice Skating Arena)
  • Short track (Assago – Milan Ice Skating Arena)
  • Speed skating (Rho – Milan Speed Skating Stadium/Ice Park)
  • Opening Ceremony (Milan – San Siro)

Which areas of Milan will host the Olympics?

If you’re deciding where to stay or how to plan your days during the Winter Olympics, think of Milan like this:

  • West: San Siro (Opening Ceremony)
  • South-east: Santa Giulia (Hockey) + Porta Romana (Olympic Village)
  • South-west: Assago (Figure skating + Short track)
  • North-west: Rho/Fiera Milano (Speed skating + selected hockey)

Tip: the official ticketing service recommends buying tickets for venues in the same Milan area on the same day (Milan / Rho / Assago) to make travel easier.

Milano-Cortina: tickets for events in Milan

Tickets for the Milano-Cortina Olympics must be purchased online only through the official ticketing platform, at:
https://tickets.milanocortina2026.org/city/milano-4538/

In addition to the official ticketing website, there is an official app—Tickets MilanoCortina2026—for managing digital tickets.
Available on the App Store and Google Play, the app lets you keep your e-tickets with you at all times and manage any name changes or ticket resales if you’re unable to attend.

Milan during the Olympics: what to do beyond the competitions

During Milano-Cortina 2026, Milan isn’t only about venues and the Olympic Village: it’s a city that naturally packs its calendar with events well beyond the Games.

Cultural Olympiad and “Italia dei Giochi”

Milano-Cortina 2026 includes an official Cultural Olympiad programme and a broader set of initiatives (“Italia dei Giochi”) bringing cultural and social events alongside the sporting programme.
Expect an evolving calendar of exhibitions, talks, and city projects (and not only in Milan).

Exhibitions and museums (a “safe bet” plan)

If you want to build evenings or half-days around the city, the official tourism portal YesMilano collects listings for exhibitions in 2025/2026 and major 2026 highlights—useful for fitting culture between one event and the next.

Teatro alla Scala (for an iconic night out)

La Scala’s 2025–2026 season runs throughout winter: if you’re after a truly Milanese experience, it’s worth monitoring the programme and booking early.
Teatro alla Scala is in the very centre of the city, at Via Filodrammatici 2, just steps from the Duomo.

Concerts and shows in February 2026

City event calendars already list concerts and shows across multiple venues (Arcimboldi, Fabrique, Alcatraz, etc.) during the Olympic weeks.
For example, take a look at the listings on MilanoPocket.it.

Where to stay in Milan during the Winter Olympics

During the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, accommodation demand in Milan will be high throughout the Games (and often in the days just before and after). The best advice is to book as early as possible and choose a property that lets you move around the city easily, no matter which venue you plan to attend.

To get a best-price guarantee, clearer terms, and above all direct communication with the hotel (very helpful for late arrivals, special requests, or changes), we recommend booking through the official websites of the hotels listed on nozio.travel.

And one more thing: if you book via the Official Websites of affiliated hotels (those marked with the “0%” logo), you can use the promo code #NOZIO to access a special rate reserved for travellers booking via nozio.travel.
